Job Description:
Job Summary:
- Builds prototypes and assists in testing and evaluation of products.
- Works collaboratively with the engineering team and plant personnel to improve design, manufacturing and assembly process.
- Designs and details grain dryer parts, assemblies and accessories.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- Designs and models products and components in SolidWorks accurately.
- Prepares and maintains accurate Bill of Materials.
- Reviews, evaluates, and troubleshoots design problems.
- Assists in supporting new and existing designs by gathering information and producing drawings.
- Conducts shop and field tests and prepares evaluation/test reports.
- Works from written and verbal directions, sketches, and customer specifications.
- Creates, documents, and maintains parts and assembly instructions.
- Prepares product manuals and assembly instructions.
- Revises manufacturing drawings for various components and assemblies, as required.
- Evaluates and updates manufacturing drawings for clarity and dimensional accuracy.
- Assists with troubleshooting and problem solving by working directly with the design team, production supervisors/managers, shop floor production team, and sales and service as needed.
- Drives company vehicle to travel and assist dealers and customers on how to troubleshoot or repair Shivvers equipment.
- Maintains consistent communication with the supervisor on the status of assigned tasks.
- Follows safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments and maintains a clean and orderly work area.
- Actively participates in continuous improvement activities.
- May assist in other areas of Engineering as workload demands change.
Educational Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in Applied Sciences preferred, but not required.
Skills/Experience Requirements:
- CAD modelling/drafting experience preferred.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes a plus.
- High level of proficiency drafting in 3D environment using SolidWorks preferred.
- Attention to detail. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong mechanical knowledge and ability with understanding of electrical and hydraulic components and circuits.
- Ability to work from engineering sketches.
- Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Work effectively with limited direction as well as the ability to work in a team environment and multitask effectively.
- Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions such as bending, walking, kneeling, climbing, reaching with hands, grasping, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to wear PPE (personal protective equipment) as needed. Steel-toed shoes and safety glasses are required when working in a factory, testing, or installation areas.
Work Environment:
- Environment ranges from an office environment, to a manufacturing shop environment, to a field application environment with various noise levels and temperatures ranging from hot to cold depending on seasons.
