Production Control Supervisor

Job Description:

Job Summary:

  • Supervises the day-to-day tasks and assists with the responsibilities of Production Control and Purchasing personnel.
  • Works with inventory management to ensure raw materials and related components are available to meet production requirements and avoid shortages or overstock.
  • Provides a high degree of planning analysis to support decision making. Analyzes data, forecasts demand, and calculate material requirements based on production schedules and inventory demand.

Essential Functions:

  • Works with Inventory Control and Purchasing to manage inventory levels and tracking of materials used in order to maintain inventory levels and meet production demands.
  • Confers with various departments such as purchasing, engineering, and production to determine progress of work orders and completion dates.
  • Analyzes information such as production rates and progress, material inventories, and materials used so that status reports can be completed.
  • Collaborates with production to revise production schedules when required due to backlogs, design changes, part/material shortages, or other interruptions.
  • Assists with creating and maintaining strong working relationships with suppliers to ensure quality service and cost-effective purchases. Authorizes purchase orders and/or vendor contracts as needed to support critical business needs.
  • Works closely with various departments to understand forecasted sales. Assists in determining how to best prioritize and resolve supply constraints, inventory, and cost to meet business targets and demands.
  • Researches and determines most economical methods for procuring materials and supplies based on need, cost, and storage facilities.
  • Assists in developing a robust supplier management program that sources qualified suppliers, maximizes competition for product materials and services, and readies back up suppliers to minimize risk and reduce lead times.
  • Works with other departments to address delivery and quality issues as needed.
  • Identifies opportunities for process enhancements and cost reductions, and implementing improvements as needed.
  • Exercises good judgement and flexibility in response to production needs, in regard to supply and parts shortages.
  • Conducts employee performance reviews, individual development plans. Ensures staff have proper training and access to the necessary tools to perform their assigned duties.
  • Assists the production lead with the planning and scheduling of the work of the department. Coordinates shift scheduling to meet the needs of the department.
  • Follow safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments. Performs work in a neat and orderly fashion and maintains a clean and safe work area.
  • Actively participates in continuous improvement activities.
  • Assists in other areas of the department as workload demands change.

Educational Requirements:

  • High School diploma required, bachelor’s or associate degree preferred.

Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in a similar role required.
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing or warehouse setting preferred using ERP/MRP systems.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language, communicating effectively.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced environment maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with vendors and staff.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform repetitive operations such as sitting, standing, and using hands, arms, and fingers to reach, bend, walk, grasp, and push.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions such as bending, walking, reaching with hands, grasping, pushing, stooping, and pulling.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs frequently, and up to 50+ lbs occasionally with assistance.
  • Ability to wear PPE (personal protective equipment) as needed. Steel-toed shoes and safety glasses are required when working in the factory or testing areas.

Work Environment:

  • Environment ranges from an office environment to a manufacturing shop environment with various noise levels and temperatures ranging from hot to cold depending on seasons.
