Primary Roles:
The Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) is the company’s Senior Accounting Manager, supervising all accounting processes for this two division, privately held manufacturing company. The ideal candidate will be a finance minded person with experience in cost accounting and forecasting in a manufacturing environment. The CAO will be analyzing financial data for corporate strategic decisions and involved in those strategic decisions with the members of the Executive Management Team, including the President, Vice Presidents and Board of Directors.
The Chief Accounting Officer will be introduced into and become knowledgeable of all the aspects of the business operation cycle, which includes integrated product design, marketing, and the production of two distinct product groups. They will be responsible for producing detailed, timely manufacturing reports and quality metrics supporting a continuous improvement environment.
In this collaborative, integrated operation, the CAO will have input into formulating company goals and be responsible for the finance strategy while working with the Executive Team. Should know the elements of the annual business cycle, with an understanding of the functions throughout the operation. Assists in annual business plan budgets, and forward looking “what if” models, as well as management of financial assets including inventory valuation and identification of obsolescence and disposal. Responsible for corporate insurance coverage.

Work Location:
The Shivvers Manufacturing facility is located in Corydon, in southcentral Iowa. This successful candidate will spend time learning about the company products, marketing strategies, and company culture, so candidate will need to be within a commutable driving distance for required time needed at the Corydon location. A satellite office is being established in the Des Moines area which will allow for a hybrid work schedule in the future.
Brief Description of Job:
- Directs and supervises all accounting processes. Provides support to team members by coaching, mentoring, and training subordinate employees.
- Analyzes company financial data for corporate strategic decisions and will be involved in those decisions with members of the Executive Management Team, including the President, Vice Presidents, and Board of Directors.
- Has knowledge of all aspects of the business operation cycle, which will include integrated product design, marketing, and the production of two distinct product groups. Produces detailed, timely manufacturing reports and quality metrics supporting a continuous improvement environment. Essential Functions:
- Responsible for accounting for manufacturing and company operations by department and division.
- Manages and oversees asset management and identification, as well as management of cash flow and investments. Provides division P&L with overhead allocation.
- Supervises integrated order processing, manages customer credit administration, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll.
- Maintains the security of the internal controls of the accounting and payroll departments.
- Provides financial support metrics to Production, Sales & Marketing, etc.
- Provides inpute in product pricing.
- Responsible for fixed asset administration including accounting for disposition, inventory valuation, and identification of obsolescence and disposal.
- Supervises and evaluates corporate insurance coverages.
Educational Requirements:
- Minimum of a BA in Accounting, with extensive experience in manufacturing cost accounting. CMA or CPA who is experienced with MRP and Enterprise Accounting Software preferred.
Skills/Experience Requirements:
- Previous, extensive, experience with manufacturing cost accounting.
- Previous experience with MRP and Enterprise Accounting Software with ability to produce custom reports.
- Previous supervision experience of IT and Network Systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with working in a manufacturing environment highly desired.
- Attention to detail. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Work effectively with limited direction as well as the ability to set priorities, be flexible, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
- Previous experience in a supervisory role preferred.
- Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting etc.).
- Working knowledge of MS365.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting software (Epicor, etc).
- Well-organized with ability to prioritize.
- Very good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
Physical Requirements:
- This is primarily a sedentary role; however, this would occasionally require some repetitive motions such as walking, bending, sitting, standing, typing, pushing and pulling.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25lbs. occasionally.
Work Environment:
- Work environment will range from primary standard office at the manufacturing facility in Corydon, to a satellite office environment located in the Des Moines area.
